福岡を拠点に「Art °- Music °- Culture 」を発信するSIGNAL Gallery は、2026 年9 月7 日（月）から9 月27 日（日）まで、アーティスト・草柳 靜（Shizuka Kusayanagi ）による個展「TADAIMA （HOME NOW ）」を開催いたします。
日本で生まれ育ち、25 年以上をアメリカで過ごし、フランスとの行き来も重ねてきた草柳は、自らを異なる文化のあいだに生きる「insider-outsider 」と捉えています。絵画を中心に、ドローイング、版画、映像など複数の表現を用いながら、場所、記憶、感情、そして人間そのものに宿る本質を探求してきました。

「TADAIMA （HOME NOW ）」について
本展のタイトル「TADAIMA （ただいま）」には、「今」を意味する言葉と、「ただいま、帰ってきた」という帰還の意味が重ねられています。
草柳にとって「HOME 」とは、特定の場所や住所ではなく、肩書きや役割、周囲からの期待を手放し、ありのままの自分を理解し受け入れることのできる「内なる場所」です。
2021 年から2022 年にかけての内省的な探求を経て、草柳は絵画に自身を癒す力を見出しました。本展では、絵画を「自分自身へ戻るための言語」として捉え、色彩と形を通して、記憶や身体感覚、そして「今ここ」にある自己の感覚を探ります。

本展の中心的な作品《Untitled (home) 》では、鏡のような大きな画面の中に、中心から外へ広がる色彩と、ほとんど手を加えず残された白い空間が共存しています。その画面には、外へ広がることと内へ帰ること、拡張と収縮が同時に存在しています。

作家が捉える「HOME 」は、外の世界に探し求めるものではなく、もともと自分の内側に存在するものです。どのような環境に置かれていても消えることのない、内側の小さな「pilot light （種火）」に意識を向けること。その光へ戻ることが、自分自身を理解し、受け入れ、前へ進むための起点となります。
「TADAIMA （HOME NOW ）」は、過去でも未来でもなく、「今この瞬間」に自分自身の内側へ帰ることについての展覧会です。

# 9 月14 日のDJ Eventでは、福岡・清川の「TAO 」を拠点に活動するGenki Nishiyamaを迎えます。Nishiyamaは、酒場を起点に、東洋哲学 、俳句 、花いけ、選曲など、異なる形式 の文化実践を横断的に行っています。花いけにおいては、花を単に「飾る」のではなく、花によって空間の見え方や人の振 る舞い、時間の流れが変化することに関心を寄せています。
本イベ ントでは、花いけと選曲を通して、展覧会のテーマである「HOME 」や「今ここ」という感覚を、作品とは異なる身体的・空間的な体験として提示 します。

草柳 靜（1982年、横浜生まれ）
福岡を拠点に活動する日系アメリカ人アーティスト、グラフィックデザイナー、アートディレクター、教育者です。人生の半分以上をロサンゼルスとニューヨークで過ごした経験を背景に、その活動には多文化的な視点が反映されています。
近年の主な展覧会に、「All The (Healing) Parts 」DMST Atelier （ロサンゼルス、2024年）、
「Positive Exposure: Southern California Asian American Art 」Project Space （ロサンゼルス、2023 年）、「CHIMERA 」la Beast Gallery （ロサンゼルス、2023 年）があります。また、ニューヨークのArario Gallery やダブ リンでも作品を発表しています。
2023 年にはIKEA Residencyの参加アーティストに選出され、Hopper Prizeのショートリストにも選 出されました。レジデンシーでの活動は『The Los Angeles Times』で紹介され、また、短編映画作品がPoetry Foundationとのコラボレ ーションによるMotionpoemsのフィルム・カタログに選出されています。
Parsons School of Design にてCommunication DesignのBFAを取得 。2児の母でもあります。

Shizuka Kusayanagi Solo Exhibition “TADAIMA (HOME NOW)”
Returning to the HOME Within, Here and Now
SIGNAL Gallery, a contemporary art and cultural space in Fukuoka built around the concept of “Art °- Music °- Culture,” is pleased to present TADAIMA (HOME NOW) , a solo exhibition by artist Shizuka Kusayanagi, from September 7 to September 27, 2026.
Born and raised in Japan and having spent more than 25 years in the United States, with frequent connections to France, Kusayanagi describes herself as an “insider-outsider” living between cultures. Working primarily through painting, alongside drawing, printmaking, video, and other forms of expression, she explores the essence of places, memories, emotions, and the human experience.

About “TADAIMA (HOME NOW)”
The title TADAIMA carries two meanings in Japanese: “now,” and the phrase used when returning home-“I’m home.”
For Kusayanagi, “HOME” is not a specific place or physical address, but an inner space where one can understand and accept oneself beyond titles, responsibilities, roles, and external expectations.
Following an intensive period of inner work between 2021 and 2022, Kusayanagi discovered painting as a source of healing. In this exhibition, painting becomes a visual language through which she explores memory, bodily sensation, and the experience of returning to oneself in the present moment.

At the heart of the exhibition is Untitled (home) , a large-scale painting in which a field of color radiates outward from a central orb-like form, while an untouched white space remains at its core. The work embodies a simultaneous movement of expansion and contraction-of moving outward and coming home.

Kusayanagi considers “HOME” something that is not found outside ourselves, but something that has always existed within. She describes this inner source as a small “pilot light”-a quiet, enduring presence that connects us to who we are, even through displacement, uncertainty, or change. Returning to this light becomes a way of understanding and accepting oneself, and of finding clarity to move forward.
TADAIMA (HOME NOW) is an exhibition about returning to that inner space-not in the past or the future, but here and now.

Throughout the exhibition, SIGNAL Gallery will host an Artist Talk and two “Soul Portrait” sessions led by Kusayanagi.
“Soul Portrait” is an ongoing practice developed by the artist, in which she engages in dialogue with participants to intuitively capture their sensations and stories, translating them into portraits through words and drawing.

# The September 14 DJ Event will feature Genki Nishiyama, who operates “TAO” in Kiyokawa, Fukuoka.
Beginning with his work in the bar environment, Nishiyama engages across a range of cultural practices including Eastern philosophy, haiku, ikebana, and music selection. His approach to ikebana focuses not simply on arranging flowers, but on how flowers subtly alter the perception of a space, human behavior, and the passage of time.
Through ikebana and music selection, the event extends the exhibition’s exploration of “HOME” and “being here and now” into a spatial and embodied experience beyond the paintings.

Shizuka Kusayanagi（ b. 1982, Yokohama, Japan）
Shizuka Kusayanagi is a Japanese-American artist, graphic designer, art director, and educator working in Fukuoka.
Having lived in Los Angeles and New York for more than half her life, her practice reflects a cross-cultural perspective.
